David Herendeen serves as Professor of Music and Director of Opera and Music Theater at Oklahoma City University's School of Music, while also leading the Performing Arts Academy's Summer Musical Theatre as Artistic Director.
His educational foundation includes a Bachelor's in Vocal Performance, Master's in Music Theater (Direction) from Oberlin College Conservatory of Music, and Doctorate in Vocal Performance with specialties in Drama and Vocal Pedagogy from the University of Arizona.
Dr. Herendeen's expertise spans Opera, Music Theater, Vocal Performance, Drama, and Vocal Pedagogy, with significant contributions to performance reconstruction (Debussy's Fall of the House of Usher) and avant-garde works (Kandinsky's Yellow Sound). His pedagogical approach integrates performance practice with vocal science to develop professional artists.
Notable honors include the Deutsche Oper Berlin's German/American Award and dual National Opera Association Competition wins for productions of Gianni Schicchi/Pagliacci and Il Barbiere di Siviglia.
As an educator, he has mentored hundreds of students whose careers now flourish nationally, while his administrative leadership established OCU as a premier training ground for opera and musical theater. His current initiatives focus on expanding the Summer Musical Theatre program and strengthening industry partnerships for student placements.
