David Heilpern is a Clinical Professor and Dean of Law at Southern Cross University (SCU), holding a dual appointment in the Faculty of Business, Law and Arts. Previously serving as a Magistrate (1998–2020) and judicial trainer, he co-founded SCU's Law School in 1992 and earned an LLM from SCU. He became Chair of Discipline (Law) in August 2022.
His expertise focuses on legal education, judicial training, and law reform. Notable recognition includes the Alumni of the Decade award (2005) and the 2023 Outstanding Teaching Excellence Award. He advocates for student engagement and transformative legal pedagogy.
Prior roles include litigation lawyer on the North Coast and Adjunct Professor at SCU's School of Law and Justice.
