- Professional memberships: Secretary of ISKO Board, Chair of ISKO UK, Fellow of CILIP (FCLIP), Member of BCS (MBCS), Fellow of the Higher Education Academy (FHEA)
Dr Haynes’s research centers on the ethical and regulatory dimensions of information systems. He investigates how metadata can both enable access and pose risks, including privacy violations and surveillance. His work extends to digital literacy, online safety, and cyber resilience, particularly in public sector contexts. He explores the governance of emerging technologies like the metaverse and the role of knowledge organization in managing information risk. His research often bridges theoretical insights with practical policy implications.
His recent publications reflect a strong trend in information security, ethical metadata, digital forensics, and knowledge organization. Topics include cyber resilience frameworks in the Scottish public sector, NLP-based development of digital forensics terminology, and the ethical consequences of metadata usage. His work combines qualitative analysis with interdisciplinary approaches, often engaging with policy documents and professional practices.
Dr Haynes is actively involved in research supervision and collaborative projects. He serves as Director of Studies or supervisor for multiple PhD candidates across diverse topics such as work-based learning, ethical metadata, federated machine unlearning, and embodied carbon emissions. He has contributed to editorial activities for the Aslib Journal of Information Management and organized events like the ISKO 2022 Conference.
- ISKO 2022 Conference Programme Committee
- Editorial Board, Aslib Journal of Information Management
- Secretary, ISKO Board
