Dr. David Hayes is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Psychology at the University of Limerick (UL). Previously, he held positions at University College Dublin (UCD), including Assistant Professor in the School of Psychology, and taught at UCD’s Schools of Psychology and Education, as well as the Department of Technology and Psychology at the Dun Laoghaire Institute of Art, Design, and Technology. He earned a B.A. (2012), M.Sc. (2014), and PhD (2023) in Psychology from UCD, complemented by a 2024 Certificate in Teaching & Learning.
His research focuses on cognition, emotion, and media entertainment—particularly video games—examining how individual, social, and technological factors shape entertainment experiences. He explores long-term video game effects and applications of gaming principles to address societal challenges like pollution and education. His work aligns with UN Sustainable Development Goals related to education and environmental sustainability.
Recent publications analyze 3D film viewing via eye-tracking, ethical education curriculum implementation in Ireland, and gamified systems to combat pollution. His interdisciplinary approach bridges psychology, technology, and education.
