Professor Mark Campbell holds positions at the University of Limerick, including Professor in the Department of Physical Education & Sport Sciences, and leadership roles in Lero – the Irish Software Research Centre and the Sports and Human Performance Research Centre. His research focuses on motor cognition, expert performance, and applied sport psychology interventions, utilizing methodologies like eye-tracking to study decision-making and visual attention. Campbell earned his PhD from University College Dublin in 2006, specializing in golf expertise, and previously lectured at Dublin City University.
His work contributes to UN Sustainable Development Goal 4 (Quality Education) through athlete development and dual-career athlete advocacy. Notable research includes studies on esports physiology, athletic identity formation, and the cognitive mechanisms underlying expert performance. Campbell is actively involved in professional organizations such as the Psychological Society of Ireland and FEPSAC, and has delivered keynote addresses on sport psychology topics.
