Prof. Ian Kenny is a Professor in Biomechanics at the University of Limerick's Department of Physical Education & Sport Sciences, affiliated with the Health Research Institute and Lero – the Irish Software Research Centre. He co-directs the Sports and Human Performance Research Centre (SHPRC) and holds editorial roles in sports science journals. His research focuses on injury biomechanics, rugby science, musculoskeletal modeling, and sports equipment analysis, with over €2.4M in research funding secured. Key projects include the IRIS rugby injury surveillance program and studies on golf biomechanics with the R&A Rules Ltd. Kenny has authored 159+ publications and supervised numerous PhD students. He pioneered the MSc in Sports Performance program and developed a dedicated golf biomechanics lab at UL. His work spans international collaborations in sports injury prevention, wearable technology, and athletic performance optimization. Awards include the Force and Motion paper award (2015) and grants from Science Foundation Ireland and the Irish Research Council.
