Professor David Hassan is a Full Professor of Sport Policy and Management at the School of Sport, Ulster University. He holds dual appointments in the Faculty of Life & Health Sciences and Department of Sport and Exercise Sciences. His research focuses on intellectual disabilities, motorsport diversity, and sport governance. Prof Hassan leads the Special Olympics Regional Research Centre for Europe & Eurasia (SORRC), promoting inclusion for youth with disabilities. He serves on global bodies like the FIA University and Ireland’s GAA, and has held visiting professorships at Loughborough University, University of Technology Sydney, and Griffith University.
Key contributions include over 15 books, 175+ scientific outputs, and £300k+ external funding. His work has been honored by the President of Ireland and UAE Minister for Social Development. He edits an SSCI-ranked journal and Routledge book series, and has delivered 30+ keynote lectures globally. His media engagements include BBC documentaries on sport policy.
Recent research trends span public sector sport reforms, cardiorespiratory biomechanics, motorsport diversity strategies, and national identity through sports participation. Awards include Ulster’s Distinguished Research Fellowship and Fellowships from the Higher Education Academy and Academy of Social Sciences.
