David Hart is an historian and libertarian scholar affiliated with the UWA Business School's Economics Department as an Adjunct Research Fellow. His research focuses on the history of classical liberal thought, including 19th-century French political economists, English Levellers, and pre-Marxist class analysis theories. He holds a PhD from the University of Cambridge (1994), an MA from Stanford University (1983), and a BA (Hons) from Macquarie University (1979).
His current projects include curating the 'Great Books of Liberty' collection, developing a book on classical liberal ideas and movements, expanding research on class analysis, and exploring the 'Paris School' of 19th-century political economy. He previously directed the award-winning Online Library of Liberty (2001–2019) and taught at the University of Adelaide for 15 years.
His work emphasizes historical analysis of liberty, digital scholarship, and educational philosophy centered on confronting ignorance through exposure to diverse historical perspectives. He maintains a blog and extensive online resources at The Digital Library of Liberty & Power.
