Dr. David Hall is a Visiting Research Fellow in the Defence Studies Department at King’s College London, affiliated with the School of Security Studies within the Faculty of Social Science & Public Policy. He joined King’s in July 1998 after serving as an Assistant Professor at the Royal Military College of Canada. He holds a D.Phil. in Modern History from the University of Oxford and is a Fellow of the Royal Historical Society.
His research focuses on Modern German History and Military History from the 18th century to the present. Current work includes a forthcoming book on Adolf Hitler’s strategic use of the Obersalzberg region, building on his 2020 publication Hitler's Munich. He also teaches MA modules on Hitler Studies and operational case studies like the 1941 German invasion of Crete (Operation Merkur).
Dr. Hall is a core member of the First and Second World War Research Groups at King’s, contributing to interdisciplinary analyses of military, diplomatic, and cultural dimensions of conflict. His expertise extends to battlefield tours and staff rides for professional military education.
He is based at the Defence Academy of the UK in Shrivenham, Swindon, and actively engages in collaborative research on 20th-century warfare.
