David Guerrero is a Research Fellow at CAIS – Center for Advanced Internet Studies (Germany) and affiliated with Universitat de Barcelona, working at the intersection of political theory, sociology of communication, and intellectual history. His doctoral thesis examining expressive freedoms won the Sir Ernest Barker Prize 2025 for best thesis in political theory.
Guerrero's research examines historical and contemporary dimensions of expressive liberties (free speech, religious toleration, freedom of thought) through frameworks of political economy and republican theory. He investigates how material and symbolic resources shape communicative practices in democratic societies, with particular attention to power asymmetries in information ecosystems.
His publications demonstrate consistent engagement with political philosophy foundations, tracing conceptual developments in free speech theory from Enlightenment thinkers to contemporary debates. Recent works analyze structural domination in communication systems, neorepublican approaches to state power, and countercultural resistance within political economies of media.
