David Grossnickle is an Assistant Professor in the Natural Science department at Oregon Institute of Technology's Klamath Falls campus. His academic work bridges evolutionary biology, paleontology, and anatomical studies with a focus on mammalian evolution.
His research program investigates deep time evolutionary histories using fossil and modern mammals as primary study organisms. Methodologies include biomechanical modeling, paleoecological analysis, phylogenetic comparative methods, and morphometrics, primarily utilizing museum collection data augmented by fieldwork. He actively participates in K-12 educator outreach through programs like the DIG Field School in Montana, providing professional development in paleontological fieldwork techniques.
Grossnickle previously served as a high school biology teacher in Indiana specializing in Anatomy & Physiology and AP Biology, and completed postdoctoral research at the University of Washington where he taught summer paleontology field courses.
