Darin A. Croft is Professor and Chair of the Department of Anatomy at Case Western Reserve University School of Medicine, with joint appointments in Biology and Earth Sciences. His research examines the evolution and paleoecology of extinct South American mammals using multidisciplinary approaches.
Croft's work reconstructs ancient ecosystems through fossil analysis, focusing on adaptive radiation of native ungulates and carnivorous metatherians. His field research in the Andes has uncovered new species and revised chronologies of mammalian dispersal events. The 2023 publication 'Delivering on the Climate Emergency' integrates paleontological perspectives into climate discourse.
He currently serves as editor-in-chief of the Journal of Mammalian Evolution and research associate at Cleveland Museum of Natural History. Croft teaches human anatomy to medical students and developed courses on 'Mammal Diversity and Evolution' that bridge paleontology with modern anatomical principles.
Honors include Fulbright Scholarship to Argentina and teaching awards recognizing his curriculum innovations. His book 'Horned Armadillos and Rafting Monkeys' brings paleontological research to public audiences through engaging narratives of prehistoric South America.
