Professor David Greening is Head of Molecular Proteomics at the Baker Heart and Diabetes Institute and Director of the Proteomics and Metabolomics Platform at La Trobe University. He holds affiliate positions at Monash University and the University of Melbourne. His lab specializes in extracellular vesicle (EV) biology, cardiovascular therapeutics, and proteomics, with a focus on intercellular signalling and cardiac disease mechanisms. He leads a multidisciplinary team integrating proteomics, nanobiotechnology, and molecular biology to develop EV-based diagnostics and therapies.
Education includes a BSc(Hons) and PhD from the University of Melbourne, with certifications in Biomedical Research Management.
Research interests span EV bioengineering, multi-omics approaches, cardiac remodelling, and aptamer-based therapeutic delivery. Recent publications emphasize EV characterization, cardiovascular applications, and neurodevelopmental disorders, reflecting a trend toward translational medicine and innovative nanotherapies.
Awards & Honors:
- Helen Amelia Hains Fellow & Baker Fellow
- President, Australia and New Zealand Society of Extracellular Vesicles
- ROYAN International Research Award
- Highly Cited Researcher (top 1% globally)
Advises PhD/Master's students on projects like EV-based diagnostics and bioengineered therapeutics. Collaborates with industry partners (Takeda Pharma, Thermo Fisher) and leads international consortia, including the 2024 ISEV Congress. His lab utilizes advanced mass spectrometry and organoid models to investigate cardiac and metabolic diseases.
