David Green is a Professor specializing in Urban Futures. His research explores urban histories of poverty and wealth in nineteenth and twentieth century Britain, the history of welfare (focusing on the poor law, c.1780-1930), and British cities. He teaches historical geography, urban history, GIS, and London internships.
Green's primary research areas include urban history, historical geography, and socio-economic studies of nineteenth and twentieth century Britain. He examines welfare systems, inheritance, wealth, and urban spatial organization, particularly in London. His methodology often integrates GIS for historical analysis.
Recent publications analyze occupational health and welfare in Victorian institutions (Post Office, Metropolitan Police), revealing how bureaucracy managed sickness and pensions. This work highlights the historical development of social policy in urban Britain.
He has supervised five students and led 14 research projects, including Wellcome Trust-funded studies on occupational health in the Post Office and English Heritage projects on urban heritage. His collaborative work addresses socio-environmental inequalities and urban policy.
