David Genereux is a Professor in the Department of Marine, Earth, and Atmospheric Sciences at North Carolina State University (NC State). He holds a BS in Geology/Chemistry from the University of Delaware (1984), an MS in Environmental Engineering from MIT (1988), and a PhD in Hydrology from MIT (1991). His research focuses on hydrogeology, groundwater-surface water interactions, and PFAS contamination, with fieldwork conducted in diverse locations like NC, Costa Rica, Nebraska, and Florida. He has been funded by NSF, USDA, DOE, and the NC Collaboratory.
Genereux has served as Associate Director for Research at the Water Resources Research Institute (UNC, 2009-2014) and on the board of CUAHSI (2016-2018), including a term as board chair (2017). He has editorial roles with Water Resources Research and the Journal of Contaminant Hydrology, and has reviewed grants for NSF, EPA, and USDA. His work integrates field measurements with modeling to address issues like PFAS transport, nutrient dynamics, and gas exchange in streams.
Key collaborators include D.K. Solomon, T.E. Gilmore, and D.R.U. Knappe. His research spans agricultural, urban, and natural systems, emphasizing interdisciplinary approaches to water quality challenges. Over 10 students and post-docs have been advised, with notable contributions to PFAS studies in contaminated aquifers and stream systems.
