David G. Morgan is the MSU Research Foundation Professor of Translational Neuroscience and Director of the Alzheimer’s Alliance at Michigan State University’s College of Human Medicine. He leads the Morgan Lab focused on Alzheimer’s disease mechanisms and therapies. His career spans roles at the University of Southern California, University of South Florida (USF), and USF’s Byrd Alzheimer’s Institute as CEO/Executive Director.
Education: B.A. Philosophy (Northwestern University, 1974), M.S. and Ph.D. Neuroscience (Northwestern, 1978 & 1981), Postdoc in Aging Sciences at USC (1984).
Research interests center on immunotherapy and gene therapy approaches to target Alzheimer’s pathology, including amyloid and tau proteins. Notable contributions include developing the APP+PS1 transgenic mouse model and demonstrating immunotherapy’s efficacy in restoring memory deficits. Current initiatives include community-based memory screening and clinical trials like the NIH-funded PACT study evaluating cognitive training.
Publications and Grants: Over 200 peer-reviewed articles and continuous NIH funding since 1989. His work bridges laboratory research with clinical translation, emphasizing innate immune system modulation and biomarker development.
Labs/Teams: Directs the Morgan Lab, collaborating on projects involving microglial activation, biomarkers, and clinical trial design. The Alzheimer’s Alliance coordinates multispecialty care and community outreach.
