David Doloreux is a Professor at HEC Montréal's Department of International Business, holding the Chair in Innovation and Regional Development. He specializes in regional innovation systems, economic geography, and knowledge-intensive business services. His research focuses on how regional policies, urban contexts, and industrial clusters drive innovation, particularly in peripheral regions and emerging industries like craft brewing and AI.
Education: PhD in Urban and Regional Planning (University of Waterloo), MSc in Economic Geography (Université de Montréal), BSc in Economic Geography (UQÀM).
Research interests include analyzing the micro-geographic factors influencing knowledge exchanges, the role of KIBS in innovation processes, and the strategic development of regional industries. He has supervised 13 master's theses and numerous projects on topics ranging from innovation in SMEs to regional policy design.
His recent work explores the interplay between location, innovation modes, and policy frameworks, with notable contributions to understanding Montreal's AI cluster emergence and Quebec's peripheral regions' industrial dynamics. Awards include recognition as one of HEC Montréal's most influential researchers (2022–2024).
