David Dockan serves as Assistant Professor of Music Education at Louisiana State University's School of Music while concurrently pursuing his PhD in Music Education at the University of Kentucky.
His academic credentials include a Bachelor of Music from West Virginia University and a Master of Music from Kent State University, followed by five years of K-12 teaching experience in Prince George County Public Schools, Virginia.
Dockan specializes in contemporary music pedagogy with research focusing on informal learning methodologies, hip-hop integration, Orff Schulwerk techniques, Modern Band curriculum development, and popular media applications in elementary music education. His scholarly contributions include publication in the Music Educators Journal and an invited presentation at the International Society for Music Education symposium in Helsinki.
As an educator, he teaches elementary music classroom methods, supervises student teachers, and directs the New Horizons community music ensembles. Dockan holds certification as an Orff Schulwerk teacher through the Eastman School of Music and maintains active roles as clinician and writer in evolving music education practices.
