David Danielpour is a Professor of Cancer Research at the Case Comprehensive Cancer Center with secondary appointments as Associate Professor in the Department of Pharmacology and Department of Urology at Case Western Reserve University School of Medicine. His career spans decades of groundbreaking work in prostate cancer biology, particularly focusing on TGF-β signaling and its crosstalk with IGF-I/PI3K/Akt/mTOR and androgen receptor pathways. He also investigates oncogenic roles of JAB1/COPS5 and AMPK signaling in cancer progression.
Education:
- BS in Biology, Syracuse University
- MA in Developmental Biology, University of New York College at Buffalo
- PhD in Biochemistry and Molecular Biology, Graduate School of Biomedical Sciences (University of Texas School of Medicine)
Research Interests: Danielpour's work centers on TGF-β isoforms as dual tumor suppressors/promoters in prostate cancer. His lab elucidated mechanisms of TGF-β resistance, including androgen receptor activation, IGF-I signaling, and Hic-5/ARA55 regulation. Current projects include analyzing YM155 (survivin inhibitor) responses under hypoxia, JAB1 oncogenic functions, and Jagged1 compensatory roles in renal cancer.
Teaching Contributions: Danielpour serves as Course Director for BIOC 360/460: Advanced Technologies for Cancer Research and PATH 418: Tumor Immunology. He also facilitates inquiry groups for medical students on topics ranging from oncology to immunology, and teaches dental immunology at the School of Dental Medicine.
Labs & Collaborations: His lab maintains NRP-152 and DP-153 rat prostate cell lines, collaborating with institutions like NIH, UCSF, and National Cancer Institute. Research connects TGF-β signaling to cell death pathways, survivin suppression, and mTOR/AMPK therapeutic control.
