David Curran

David Curran is a Senior Lecturer and Joint Programme Director in the School of Psychology at Queen’s University Belfast (QUB). He holds a Doctorate in Clinical Psychology from QUB and has been employed as a Consultant Clinical Psychologist with Addiction Services in the Northern HSC Trust since 2003. His clinical and research interests include addiction, trauma, neuropsychological assessment, and therapeutic alliance dynamics. He has held roles such as Academic Director, Clinical Director, and Joint Programme Director within QUB’s Doctorate in Clinical Psychology programme. His teaching includes modules on therapeutic skills, addictions, and professional practice development.

Education: BSc (Hons) Psychology (1st Class), Doctorate in Clinical Psychology (QUB). He is a full member of the British Psychological Society (Division of Clinical Psychology) and registered with the Health & Care Professions Council.

Research focuses on trauma-related outcomes, addiction interventions, and psychological well-being in healthcare staff during crises like the pandemic. He has supervised over 30 doctoral students, many exploring topics such as trauma appraisals, neuropsychological outcomes, and addiction treatments. Collaborations include studies on quality of life measures in addictions and neurocognitive functioning in disorders like Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy.

Key contributions include systematic reviews on digital cognitive assessments in Parkinson’s disease and psychometric properties of trauma measures. He is involved in UN Sustainable Development Goals related to good health and well-being (SDG 3) through his work on mental health and pandemic responses.
