David Craufurd is a Senior Lecturer and Honorary Consultant in neuropsychiatric genetics at The University of Manchester. He specializes in Huntington's disease (HD) and the psychological/social impact of predictive DNA testing for genetic disorders. He co-founded the UK’s first multidisciplinary HD management clinic, now a major contributor to the European HD Network (EHDN).
Education: MB BS (London University, 1976), MSc, FRCPsych. Transitioned from general psychiatry to clinical genetics in 1986. Active in global HD research initiatives, including the World Federation of Neurology HD Research Group and EHDN committees.
Research focuses on HD’s neuropsychiatric aspects, predictive testing ethics, and clinical trial participation. He co-leads Manchester’s MSc program, teaching Clinical Genetics and Advanced Genetic Counselling modules.
Key contributions include pioneering multidisciplinary HD care models and advancing biomarker research in HD through gastric mucosa studies and multimodal imaging.
