David Cottrell serves as an Associate Professor in the Department of Political Science at the University of Georgia's School of Public and International Affairs (SPIA). He holds a Ph.D. in Political Science from the University of Michigan and a B.A. in Political Science from the University of California at Davis, with prior postdoctoral experience in Quantitative Social Science at Dartmouth College where he also lectured in quantitative methods.
His research centers on empirical and computational analysis of how institutional rules and procedures distort political representation in the United States, spanning American politics, political methodology, and representation theory. This work integrates advanced statistical techniques with institutional analysis to examine systemic biases in electoral and legislative systems.
While specific advising activities aren't detailed, his expertise in quantitative methods informs both research and teaching. His academic trajectory reflects deep engagement with methodological innovation in political science, particularly through his postdoctoral training at Dartmouth's Program in Quantitative Social Science.
