Jordan Kujala is a Visiting Assistant Professor at the University of California Center Sacramento and a member of the 2020-2021 American Political Science Association Congressional Fellowship Program. He holds a Ph.D. in American politics and political methodology from the University of California, Davis (2017). His research focuses on congressional representation, analyzing how money and elections influence policy positions and electoral success of U.S. House candidates. Notably, his work demonstrates that donor influence in primary elections significantly distorts political representation.
Key research areas include ideological representation, the impact of Citizens United v FEC on campaign finance, and the effects of congressional party conventions. His findings were published in the American Journal of Political Science and featured in the Niskanen Center’s Science of Politics Podcast (July 2020).
Awarded the prestigious APSA Congressional Fellowship (2020-2021), he bridges academic research with legislative practice. Teaching focuses on American politics, public policy, and research methods. Current projects explore post-Citizens United electoral dynamics and the role of party conventions in shaping congressional behavior.
