Dr. David Carty is an Honorary Clinical Senior Lecturer at the University of Glasgow's School of Cardiovascular & Metabolic Health. He holds a medical degree from Aberdeen University (2001) and completed clinical training in Inverness and New Zealand. His career includes roles as a Clinical Lecturer (2010-2015) and Consultant in Diabetes & Endocrinology at Glasgow Royal Infirmary since 2015. He co-leads a combined diabetes/endocrine-obstetric clinic with Drs. Robbie Lindsay and Fiona Mackenzie.
His research focuses on diabetes, endocrinology, and pregnancy-related complications. He was awarded an NRS Career Research Fellowship (2016) to study pre-eclampsia and maternal health outcomes. Key interests include preeclampsia prediction, thyroid dysfunction in pregnancy, and cardiovascular consequences of gestational disorders. He collaborates on proteomic studies and clinical trials like the CONCEPTT trial on glucose monitoring in pregnant diabetics.
Notable grants include funding from the Chief Scientist Office (£2012-2015), Society for Endocrinology (£2014-2015), and NHS Greater Glasgow (£2008-2010). His work bridges clinical care and research, emphasizing translational applications in maternal-fetal health and endocrine disorders.
