David C. Parrish is a Professor in the Department of Art History within the Rueff School of Design, Art, and Performance at Purdue University, with additional appointments in Classical Studies and Medieval and Renaissance Studies under the School of Interdisciplinary Studies (SIS). His office is located in PAO 3121E.
Education:
- M.A. in Classical Art History and Archaeology, Columbia University (June 1970)
- Ph.D. in Classical Art History and Archaeology, Columbia University (May 1977)
Research Expertise: Professor Parrish specializes in Greco-Roman and Early Christian Art, with pioneering work on ancient Roman and late antique mosaics. His research spans pavement art from Roman North Africa and mosaics of Asia Minor, where he serves as co-director of the international Corpus of the Mosaics of Turkey project funded by the Getty Foundation. He has also published significant scholarship on ancient urbanism, focusing on city planning in Western Asia Minor.
Professional Leadership: As Treasurer of the International Association for the Study of Ancient Mosaics (AIEMA) and two-term President of its North American Branch, he drives global scholarly collaboration in mosaic studies.
