David C. Howson serves as Teaching Professor and Arthur Zankel Executive Director of the Arts Administration Program at Skidmore College. He leads the program that combines artistic sensibility with business acumen by examining the foundations of non-profit arts organizations. His role includes teaching courses in arts management, philanthropy, and non-profit leadership while engaging guest lecturers and community arts leaders.
Education:
- M.F.A. in theater management from David Geffen School of Drama at Yale
- B.A. and Master of Liberal Arts degrees from University of Richmond
Professor Howson's research primarily focuses on non-profit arts organizations in the Adirondack region, examining their operational frameworks, sustainability models, and community impact. His expertise spans arts governance, leadership development, and strategic planning within cultural institutions. He regularly advises organizations on non-profit governance, leadership practices, and accessibility initiatives, drawing from his extensive practical experience in arts administration. His professional approach integrates theoretical knowledge with real-world application, particularly in organizational turnaround and financial recovery scenarios.
