David Bouvier is an Honorary Professor at the Faculty of Letters of the University of Lausanne (UNIL), previously serving as Full Professor of Greek Language and Literature at the Institute of Archaeology and Ancient Sciences. His academic journey includes studies at the Sorbonne, École des Hautes Études en Sciences Sociales (EHESS), and a Swiss doctorate from the University of Geneva. Specializing in Homeric epic, anthropological analysis of genres, and the intersection of language and thought, Bouvier’s research extends to digital humanities and reception studies. He directed the SNSF-funded Iliadoscope project (2017–2021), developing tools for analyzing ancient manuscripts. Notable collaborations include international networks like PARSA and CorHaLi, and visiting professorships at institutions such as the University of Chicago and University of Pisa. His work has been recognized with the Charles Bailly Prize for his doctoral thesis, later published as The Scepter and the Lyre.
Teaching and mentorship are central to his career, having supervised seven doctoral theses between 2011–2018. Bouvier remains engaged with contemporary cultural contexts, bridging antiquity and modern scholarship. He is married to Valentina Calzolari, a professor of Armenian studies at the University of Geneva.
