Alessandro Buccheri

Dr. Alessandro Buccheri is a researcher at École Pratique des Hautes Études (EPHE-PSL) and the ANHIMA Center (UMR 8210). His work bridges Classical studies, anthropology, and metaphor theory, focusing on botanical representations in Greek antiquity. He leads the ANR-funded POLYBOTA project, exploring intersections between polytheism and botany.

• Education: PhD in Classics from Università di Siena (2017) and EHESS, under Maurizio Bettini and Frédérique Ildefonse.
• Research Themes: Vegetal metaphors of kinship, physis in Greek thought, comparative models between plant/human ontologies, and interdisciplinary applications of botanical analogies in ancient texts.

Academic Contributions: His publications analyze botanical growth as metaphor for ethics in Theophrastus, kinship in Latin lexicography, and plant imagery in Homeric epics. Current work extends these themes to medical humanities and cross-cultural cognitive models.
