David B. Huffman is the Distinguished Professor of Behavioral Economics at the University of Pittsburgh's Department of Economics. He previously held positions as Associate Professor at the University of Oxford (where he was also Tutorial Fellow at St. Catherine's College) and at Swarthmore College. His research focuses on behavioral economics, labor economics, and experimental methods, with a focus on decision-making determinants and applied labor market questions. He holds a PhD from UC Berkeley and a BA from Oberlin College.
Research Interests:
- Decision-making under risk, time, and social interactions
- Relational contracting in labor markets
- Experimental methodologies including field experiments within firms
- Global economic preferences via the Global Preference Survey (GPS)
Recent Work: His 2023 works explore managerial cognition in pricing strategies and bounded rationality effects. The GPS dataset (2018) analyzes preferences across 76 countries. He has contributed to understanding aging's impact on economic preferences and the role of cognitive ability in risk-taking.
