Dr. David Bürgin is a Research Fellow at the Jacobs Center for Productive Youth Development, University of Zurich, and affiliated with the Clinic for Children and Adolescents at the University Psychiatric Clinics Basel. He holds a PhD in Clinical Research from the Medical Faculty of the University of Basel and an MSc in Clinical Psychology and Neuroscience. His research focuses on understanding the bio-psycho-socio-ecological consequences of childhood adversities, particularly in marginalized populations such as residential care leavers and refugees. Key themes include stress resilience, public mental health, developmental psychopathology, and epigenetic mechanisms linking adversity to health outcomes.
Dr. Bürgin has conducted extensive work on high-risk populations, including studies on trauma exposure, mental health trajectories, and biomarkers of stress (e.g., cortisol, telomere length). His interdisciplinary approach integrates clinical, epidemiological, and molecular methods, with a focus on translating research findings into actionable care strategies. Recent studies emphasize the cumulative impact of adversity across the lifespan and the need for tailored interventions to support vulnerable youth.
