David Arnosti is a Professor in the Department of Biochemistry and Molecular Biology at Michigan State University (MSU), where he also serves as Director of the Graduate Program in Biochemistry and Molecular Biology. His research focuses on gene regulation mechanisms in Drosophila, particularly the roles of retinoblastoma tumor suppressor proteins and transcriptional corepressors like CtBP. Arnosti holds a Ph.D. from UC Berkeley and completed postdoctoral training at the University of Zurich and UC San Diego.
His research integrates genetics, molecular biology, and computational approaches to study cis-acting regulatory elements and trans-acting factors in developmental contexts. Key areas include transcriptional repression dynamics, chromatin remodeling, and the interplay between protein stability and regulatory function. His work has implications for understanding cancer, developmental disorders, and evolutionary adaptations in gene regulation.
Notable projects investigate retinoblastoma protein (Rbf) instability elements, CRISPRi-mediated repression studies, and the functional diversification of corepressors. Arnosti’s lab employs Drosophila models to dissect how transcriptional regulators shape developmental trajectories and cellular responses.
His publications highlight advancements in thermodynamic modeling of gene expression, CRISPR-based technologies, and the role of epigenetic modifiers. His work bridges fundamental biology with computational methods, offering insights into conserved regulatory mechanisms across species.
