David Anthony Shaw

Dr. David Anthony Shaw is a Research Fellow in the Department of Science and Engineering at Manchester Metropolitan University. His work focuses on developing catalytic thin films for Proton Exchange Membranes (PEMs) and Solid Oxide Fuel Cells (SOFCs) using advanced physical vapor deposition techniques like magnetron sputtering. He collaborates with the Manchester Fuel Cell Innovation Centre (MFCIC) and the Greater Manchester Electrochemical Hydrogen Cluster (GMEHC) to advance sustainable energy technologies.

Before academia, he held roles as Quality Manager at HB Fuller (a global adhesive manufacturer) and Carbon Air (a Salford University startup), overseeing quality control and compliance. He also served as a Royal Marines Commando from 1997–2004, gaining leadership and problem-solving skills.

He holds a First Class Honours degree in Chemistry and a Doctorate from Manchester Metropolitan University. His research emphasizes optimizing catalytic materials for energy applications, with a focus on magnetron sputtering techniques and equipment training.

Outside academia, he enjoys long walks in the Scottish Highlands and MotoGP.
