Davey Jones is Professor of Soil and Environmental Science and Associate Pro Vice-Chancellor at Bangor University's School of Environmental & Natural Sciences. He leads the Wastewater-based Public Health Surveillance Programme for Wales and maintains a strategic laboratory partnership with Verily Life Sciences LLC. His research spans environmental science, soil health, and public health with significant contributions to viral surveillance in wastewater systems.
His research interests focus on understanding below-ground processes related to nutrients and human pathogen behavior in water-food-soil-plant-microbial systems. Key areas include viral pathogen control in ecosystems, antimicrobial resistance in a One Health context, carbon sequestration in agricultural systems, nutrient use efficiency, microplastic pollution, soil microbial diversity, and ecosystem resilience to environmental stressors. His work integrates natural and social sciences to generate actionable insights for policy and practice.
His 754+ ISI-listed publications (H-index 111) reflect leadership in environmental virology, soil science, and public health. Notable projects include the EPSRC Digital Health Hub for AMR, QUANTUM project on nutrient enrichment, and the GCRF agricultural plastics initiative. His research has directly informed UK and Welsh government policies during the COVID-19 pandemic through SAGE sub-committees and technical advisory groups.
