Professor Dave Richardson is the Head of the School of Psychology and Sport Science at Bangor University, overseeing academic, financial, and people management since July 2022. Previously, he served as Director of the School of Sport and Exercise Sciences at Liverpool John Moores University (2014–2022). His research focuses on elite athlete management, welfare, transitions, identity, and community football initiatives for behavioral change. He employs qualitative methods and creative non-fiction narratives to explore socio-cultural and psychosocial dimensions in sport. His work bridges high-performance environments and community health agencies, emphasizing humanistic understanding of athletes and practitioners.
Research interests include athlete development strategies, organizational leadership in sports, and the socio-cultural contexts shaping athletic and practitioner experiences. He is a leading authority on football’s role in community health (FitC) and contributes to journals like Leaders in Performance.
Professor Richardson supervises PhD students and maintains an open-door policy for postgraduate research opportunities. His work integrates academic rigor with applied practice, aiming to influence policy and operational frameworks in sports development and public health.
