Dr. Anthony Blanchfield is a Lecturer in Sports Psychology and Sport and Exercise Psychophysiology at Bangor University. He graduated with a first-class honors degree in Sports Science from Liverpool John Moores University in 2005, earned a Master's with Distinction from Bangor University in 2007, and completed his PhD in Endurance Performance Psychophysiology in 2014. He joined Bangor full-time in 2015 after a postdoctoral research year.

His research explores how psychological and neurophysiological interventions affect endurance performance and recovery. Key themes include self-talk, neurofeedback, time perception, and subconscious visual cues. He has contributed to journals like Psychology of Sport and Exercise and Journal of Sports Sciences, focusing on brain-targeted strategies to enhance athletic capabilities.
Recent publications show trends in neurofeedback training (2019–2021), self-talk mechanisms (2014), and mindfulness applications. His 2022 work on self-control and mental effort in lectures bridges sports psychology with educational outcomes.
He has supervised project students on topics such as carbohydrate mouthwash, time perception treatment, and perception-of-effort modification. As a Higher Education Academy Fellow, he teaches modules including Performance Physiology and Advanced Exercise Physiology, emphasizing practical applications for elite sports and health.
