Dave McGill

Dave McGill is a Professor and Extension Specialist in Forest Resources Management at West Virginia University. His career spans fieldwork in California, Niger, Wisconsin, and Pennsylvania, culminating in his current role educating landowners about sustainable forest management. He teaches the global forest resources course (FOR425) and specializes in tree/shrub identification and outreach programs.

McGill’s research focuses on invasive species control, landowner motivations, and forest stewardship. Publications reflect interdisciplinary approaches to forest ecology, watershed restoration, and community-based conservation.

McGill collaborates with conservation organizations and co-teaches with wildlife specialists, delivering workshops on winter tree ID, shiitake mushroom production, and wildlife-forest interactions. His outreach program, the West Virginia Woodland Welcome Wagon, evaluates landowner engagement strategies in priority areas.
