Kathryn Arano Gazal is an Associate Professor of Forest Economics and Management at the Forest Resources Management Program, School of Natural Resources, West Virginia University. She holds a PhD from Mississippi State University, along with BS and MS degrees in forestry from the University of the Philippines Los Banos. Her academic career spans teaching courses such as Principles of Forestry Economics, Forest Valuation and Investment, and Global Forest Resources.
- Research Focus: Private forest landowners' investment behavior, forest taxation, urban forestry, Marcellus shale drilling impacts, and digitalization trends (e-commerce/social media) in the forest products industry.
- Publications: Her work explores shale gas extraction effects on forest markets, educational preferences of female woodland owners, tourism impacts, and digital transformation in forestry.
- Projects: Analyzed export activities in West Virginia's hardwood industry, economic effects of property taxes, and behavioral drivers in forest management decisions.
