Daryl A Bosco

Daryl A Bosco, PhD is a Professor at UMass Chan Medical School, holding the Paul J. DiMare Chair in Neurodegenerative Disease. She also has secondary appointments in the T.H. Chan School of Medicine (Biochemistry and Molecular Biotechnology, Neurology) and Morningside Graduate School of Biomedical Sciences (multiple programs including Neuroscience and MD/PhD Program).

• Postdoctoral Training: Scripps Research Institute (Alpha-Synuclein Misfolding), Harvard Medical School (ALS Research)

Research Focus: The Bosco lab investigates pathogenic mechanisms of ALS-associated proteins (SOD1, FUS/TLS, Profilin-1, TDP-43) using multidisciplinary approaches including biochemistry, cell biology (iPSC technology), biophysics, and in vivo models. Key projects include studying protein misfolding, nucleocytoplasmic transport defects, and microglial dysfunction in ALS.

Publications Trends: Recent work explores iPSC-derived microglia for ALS modeling, traumatic brain injury models for neurodegeneration, and FUS-nucleoporin interactions in nucleocytoplasmic transport. Earlier studies focused on SOD1 misfolding, stress granule assembly, and proteostasis in neurodegenerative diseases.

Training & Collaboration: The lab actively participates in graduate education through Morningside Graduate School of Biomedical Sciences and offers research opportunities for MD/PhD students. Dr. Bosco collaborates extensively with ALS researchers including John Landers, Robert Brown, and Nils Henninger.
