Dr Darren Nixon is a Senior Lecturer in Sociology at Leeds Beckett University’s School of Humanities and Social Sciences. His work focuses on the Sociology of Work, working-class masculinities, and critical pedagogy. He co-authored a seminal textbook on the Sociology of Work (Grint & Nixon, 2015) and has extensively researched de-industrialisation’s impact on working-class men. Nixon leads an Erasmus+ funded project developing gamified learning tools for youth workers, emphasizing non-formal education techniques. His collaborations with Dr Natalia Gerodetti and students have produced internationally disseminated games and methodologies showcased at global conferences.
Research interests include youth labour market transitions, gamification in education, and socio-economic policy effects. He teaches modules like 'The Sociology of Work' and 'Research Ethics'. Current projects focus on consolidating youth work methodologies through gamified resources. Nixon’s work spans academic publications, funded projects, and innovative teaching methods that bridge theory and practice.
