Dr. Darren Liu is a Professor in the Department of Health Policy, Management & Leadership at West Virginia University School of Public Health. He joined in 2022 and specializes in nursing home quality, long-term care administration, diversity and inclusion, and healthcare disparities. A Fellow of The Gerontological Society of America, he also serves on committees like the Diversity and Inclusion Advisory Committee for the Association of Schools and Programs of Public Health.
His research spans over two decades, with over 40 peer-reviewed publications and two textbooks, including Isms in Health Care Human Resources and The Challenges of Health Disparities. His work emphasizes curriculum design for diversity training, pandemic leadership in healthcare, and leveraging technology to improve long-term care delivery. He actively promotes intergenerational service-learning and community partnerships to address healthcare inequities.
Publications highlight innovations in dementia care, digital divide mitigation among middle-aged adults, and post-acute care leadership during crises like the pandemic. His recent focus includes racial disparities in cancer screening and the intersection of health literacy with gender and race in aging populations.
