Darren Aaron Denenberg

Darren Aaron Denenberg is a Lecturer in the Department of Informatics at the University of California, Irvine (UCI), within the Donald Bren School of Information and Computer Sciences. He has over 22 years of teaching experience, emphasizing dynamic fields like technology, human-computer interaction (HCI), and game design. His academic journey includes a Bachelor’s in Cognitive and Physiological Psychology from the University of Maryland, Baltimore County (1993), followed by a Ph.D. in Information Systems Management with a specialization in HCI from the same institution.

Denenberg teaches a wide range of courses at UCI, including Social Analysis of Computerization, Human-Computer Interaction, Senior Project Capstone, Ubiquitous Computing, Technical Writing, and Game Development. He also developed courses for UCI’s Online Masters in Human-Computer Interaction (MHCID) program, such as Advanced Design and Prototyping. His teaching style blends high energy with engagement, drawing from his background as a professional bassist in a rock band.

His research interests focus on the intersection of technology and humanity, exploring both positive and negative impacts of technological dependence. Notably, he donated a 40+ year collection of video games and consoles to UCI’s department to support research. Denenberg’s career includes previous faculty roles at Nevada State College’s School of Arts and Sciences, the University of Nevada, Las Vegas’ Lee Business School, and the University of Maryland, Baltimore County’s School of Information Technology and Engineering. Beyond academia, he is a horror movie enthusiast and active musician, with recordings in hard rock, surf, and pop genres.
