Darra Hofman serves as the MARA (Master of Archives and Records Administration) Coordinator at San José State University's School of Information and as a Sessional Instructor at the University of British Columbia's iSchool (School of Library, Archival and Information Studies). They teach INFO 200 – Information Communities and INFO 284 – Seminar in Archives and Records Management with a focus on Digital Curation.
Dr. Hofman's educational background includes:
- Ph.D. in Library, Archival, and Information Science from The University of British Columbia (2020)
- M.S. in Library Science from University of Kentucky (2015)
- J.D. from Arizona State University (2007)
- B.A. in English Literature from Arizona State University (2003)
Their research examines the critical intersection of archives, technology, and law, with particular focus on privacy concerns, blockchain technologies, and health records management. Hofman's work spans multiple domains including archival collections, archival description using RAD (Rules for Archival Description), copyright and intellectual property issues, information policy, intellectual freedom and censorship, law libraries, and records management. Their unique combination of legal training and information science expertise positions them at the forefront of addressing contemporary challenges in digital archives and records management.
Dr. Hofman has professional experience as a Sessional Instructor at UBC since 2018, and previously served as a Graduate Research Assistant at both Blockchain@UBC (2015-2020) and InterPARES Trust (2015-2019) at the University of British Columbia. They also practiced as an Attorney from 2007 to 2009, bringing valuable legal perspective to their academic work in information science.
