Darlene DeFour is an Associate Professor of Psychology at the School of Arts and Sciences, Hunter College (CUNY). Her research focuses on the impact of stress, racism, sexism, and physical violence on health, as well as strategies for coping with bias. She holds a PhD from the University of Illinois.
Dr. DeFour's work bridges social psychology and health psychology, addressing systemic inequities and their physiological and psychological consequences. Her research examines how interpersonal and structural violence (e.g., racial/sexist discrimination) manifest as stressors and influence mental/physical health outcomes. She also investigates culturally adaptive coping mechanisms to mitigate these effects.
