Dr. Darlene Brothers-Gray serves as Associate Professor and Coordinator of Forensic Investigations in the Department of Criminal Justice at Coppin State University. Based in the Health and Human Services Building (Room 514), she specializes in crime scene reconstruction, fingerprint analysis, and sexual assault kit processing, with her work featured on television's "The First 48".
Her academic credentials include:
- PhD in Criminal Justice from Capella University (2020)
- MS in Forensic DNA and Serology from the University of Florida (2010)
- MS in Forensic Investigations from National University (2009)
Research focuses intensely on untested sexual assault kits, examining systemic backlogs and victim impact, alongside crime scene investigation methodologies for fingerprint recovery and reconstruction. Her practical experience as a former Atlanta Police Department Crime Scene Investigator and Fingerprint Technician directly informs her applied research approach.
Recent publications (2020-2025) reveal dual research trajectories: technological innovation in forensic education (virtual autopsy software, VR applications) and critical analysis of sexual assault kit processing (victim notification protocols, institutional barriers). Her 2021 book establishes foundational work on untested kit phenomena.
Professionally active in the American Academy of Criminal Justice and International Association for Identification, she contributes to national forensic standards while leading Coppin State's Forensic Investigations program.
