Darla Wise

Darla Wise is a Professor of Biology at Concord University, affiliated with the College of Science, Mathematics, and Health and the Department of Biology. She has been at Concord since 1998 and holds additional roles in Safe Zone and University Assessment. Her research focuses on host-pathogen interactions, microbiology, genetics, environmental biology, and antibiotic resistance, often collaborating with students on projects such as studying Rickettsia in ticks and the impact of bisphenol A on plant growth.

Education: Ph.D. in Biology from Virginia Polytechnic Institute & State University (1995); M.S. and B.S. in Biology from State University of New York at Fredonia (1990, 1983).

Research emphasizes student-driven exploration across microbiology, microbiomes, and environmental science. Notable works include co-authoring veterinary microbiology textbooks and a seminal patent on Borrelia DNA detection.
