Jeremy Bechelli is an Associate Professor in the Department of Biology at Salem State University, within the College of Arts and Sciences. His research focuses on tick-borne infectious diseases, particularly Colorado tick fever virus (CTFV) and spotted fever group Rickettsiae, examining host responses in infected endothelial cells and early innate immunological mechanisms.
- Current courses taught include BIO 122 World of Cells, BIO 219 Evolution, BIO 304 Microbiology and Its Applications, BIO 318 Virology and Bioinformatics, BIO 406 Advanced Topics in Microbiology, and BIO 407 Directed Study in Biology.
- Laboratory work includes microscopy, molecular biology, and cell biology approaches to study pathogen-host interactions.
His team has received USDA funding to investigate antibiotic-producing soil bacteria that inhibit rice pathogens Xanthomonas oryzae pv. oryzae and oryzicola, expanding their research into agricultural microbiology. Recent publications span virology, microbiology, and veterinary science, with interdisciplinary collaborations in public health and equine medicine.
