Darin Ciccotelli is an Associate Professor of Rhetoric and Composition and Director of the Writing Program at Soka University of America. He holds a PhD in Literature and Creative Writing from the University of Houston, an MFA in Writing from the University of Texas, and a BA in English Literature and Creative Writing from the University of Central Florida. His research focuses on Affect Theory, American Literature post-1865, Comics and Graphic Narratives, and Creative Writing Pedagogy.
Dr. Ciccotelli has been recognized with prestigious awards including SUA Professor of the Year (2011-2012) and the Inprint/Lucille Joy Prize in Poetry (2008). His creative works have appeared in journals such as Western Humanities Review, West Branch, and Crazyhorse, with a focus on lyrical poetry exploring themes of nature, urban landscapes, and existential inquiry. He has directed the Writing Program since his appointment in 2010, overseeing courses in first-year writing, advanced communication, and creative writing.
His scholarly work critiques institutionalized creative writing practices and examines intersections between contemporary literature and cultural theory. He has taught courses on topics ranging from 'The Post-American World' to 'Writing the Apocalypse,' reflecting his engagement with modern societal issues and literary innovation.
