Dr. Daria Trojan is an Associate Professor in the Department of Neurology and Neurosurgery at McGill University and Professeure associée of Medicine at the Université de Montréal. She serves as a physiatrist at the Montreal Neurological Hospital, Jewish Rehabilitation Hospital, and Lethbridge-Layton-MacKay Rehabilitation Centre, where she coordinates the Post-Polio Clinic.
Her educational background includes a B.A. in Chemistry from Swarthmore College (1980), an M.D. from the University of Connecticut School of Medicine (1984), and an M.Sc. in Epidemiology and Biostatistics from McGill University (1993). Residency training was completed at Columbia-Presbyterian Medical Center, University Hospital (Boston University), and Montreal General Hospital.
Dr. Trojan's research focuses on neuromuscular diseases, particularly post-polio syndrome and sleep abnormalities in multiple sclerosis. She investigates late polio effects, fatigue mechanisms, brain volume changes, and sleep disorder impacts on quality of life. Her work bridges clinical rehabilitation and neuroimmunology through polysomnography, neuroimaging, and digital health tools.
Analysis of her 11 publications (2008-2024) reveals consistent focus on post-polio syndrome and multiple sclerosis with evolving methodologies. Early work examined inflammatory markers and bisphosphonate responses, while recent studies emphasize sleep apnea interventions, gait assessment technology, and long-term treatment outcomes in neuroimmunological contexts.
Her scientific recognition includes:
- Fellowships from the Fonds de la recherche en Santé du Québec
- Clinical Research Scholarships from the Fonds de la recherche en Santé du Québec
Dr. Trojan coordinates the Post-Polio Clinic and contributes to the Neuroimmunological Diseases Research Group at The Neuro. Her clinical-research integration targets fatigue management, sleep disorder treatment, and quality-of-life improvements for neuromuscular disorder patients through evidence-based rehabilitation approaches.
