Darach Sanfey

Darach Sanfey is a Lecturer in French Studies at Mary Immaculate College (MIC), part of the Faculty of Arts. He holds qualifications including HDE (NUI), Dip Trans MIL, and MA (NUI). His research focuses on Enlightenment-era literature and intellectual history, particularly the works of Rousseau and Montesquieu, exploring themes like sexuality, political thought, and cross-cultural intellectual exchange.

His scholarship examines topics such as Rousseau's autobiographical writings, the interpretation of his 'madness' narratives, and the transnational transmission of Enlightenment ideas. He has contributed articles analyzing Montesquieu's influence in Ireland and the role of translation in spreading Enlightenment thought across Europe.

Sanfey’s work bridges literary criticism and intellectual history, engaging with interdisciplinary approaches to 18th-century French and European contexts.
