Daphne Gilbert is a Full Professor in the English Common Law Program at the University of Ottawa and a member of the Law Society of Ontario. She specializes in criminal and constitutional law, including courses on Criminal Law and Procedure, Advanced Sexual Assault Law, and Animals and the Law.

Her research focuses on the Charter of Rights and Freedoms, emphasizing equality rights, reproductive justice, medical assistance in dying (MAiD), sexual violence, and safe sport/abuse in sport. Recent work explores codes of conduct for sexual violence prevention in Canadian sports and the impact of conscience protections on access to contraception, abortion, and MAiD. She is involved in Charter challenges to end discriminatory practices in MAiD and frequently comments on sexual violence in hockey, MAiD, and abortion rights.

She clerked for Chief Justice Antonio Lamer at the Supreme Court of Canada and Justice Robertson at the Federal Court of Appeal. Gilbert serves as Vice Chair for Dying with Dignity Canada and Fòs Feminista Canada, and previously as President of Women Help Women. Her publications span analyses of equality rights under the Charter, donor-conceived children's rights, and legal pedagogy reforms for social justice.
